A final press conference was held on the project "Reduction of marine waste from terrestrial sources in a target water area on the territory of the municipality of Pomorie together with an educated and informed society regarding the pollution of sea waters", which is implemented with the financial support of the Program "Protection of the Environment and Climate changes", through the EEA FM 2014-2021.
The project was implemented in partnership with the Local Fishery Initiative Group /MIRG / - Pomorie and with an organization from the donor countries - International Development Norway AS, which has expertise in the implementation of projects in the field of circular economy, environmental protection, technology and sustainable development.
"The clean environment and the protection of the clean sea is very important for us, not only as an economic development of our region, but also for human health and quality of life. I thank the team and colleagues who participated in the implementation of this project, which was realized in partnership with a Norwegian organization and in continuation of the efforts and policy of the Municipality of Pomorie to protect the environment and, in particular, our coast," said Mayor Ivan Alexiev. during the press conference.
Georgi Petkov, representative of MIRG - Pomorie specified that through the partnership the local fishing group has received an extremely high added value to the implementation of the group's strategy, in the direction of environmental protection of the fishing territory. "The result of the implementation of the project will complement and launch activities to develop and implement the principles of "blue" growth, which will be very relevant in the next program period, including those included in the new strategy of the Local Initiative Fishery Group," he added.
The main activity of the project was the purchase of 2 high-tech water drones for collecting waste floating on the surface of the water, such as polyethylene bags, household plastics, abandoned gill nets, etc. Drones can detect chemicals in the water and collect data about the marine environment. In this way, cleaning, monitoring and management of the waters of the target water area under the project was carried out, namely - the coast of the Black Sea on the territory of the municipality of Pomorie, the river Aheloy and the Pomorie salt lake.
On the basis of the collected information, a basic, intermediate and final comparative analysis of the state of the waters was prepared, as well as a system for their protection from terrestrial sources of pollution and human activity.
The collected data were used in an informational and educational campaign, conducted among teachers of subjects including material in the field of the marine environment, as well as among students of grades 7-12 from SU "Ivan Vazov" - Pomorie and PGT "Aleko Konstantinov" - Pomorie, regarding the sources of sea water pollution and the reuse of collected waste.
Within the framework of the project, 3 short films and 3 advertising clips were made to raise the awareness of the general public in connection with the implemented initiatives to reduce the pollution of the marine environment.
